  • THE TURNING

    [Scientific name: Nothofagus gunnii]

Endemic to Tasmania, this unique alpine tree loses its foliage prior to winter. A magnificent autumn display sees the leaves turn bright yellow, orange and red before falling to the forest floor.

The phenomenon is known by locals as the ‘turning of the fagus’.

  • PARDALOTE PAISLEY

    [Scientific name: Pardalotus quadragintus]

One of Australia’s rarest birds, the Forty-spotted Pardalote is endemic to Tasmania. They are entirely dependent on Eucalyptus viminalis (white gum) and are very sensitive to habitat loss.

The Forty-spotted Pardalote now only occurs in a few remaining pockets of white gum forest along Tasmania’s east coast.

  • ZEA BLOSSOMS

    [Scientific name: Kunzea ambigua]

A native shrub abundant in the pristine North East of Tasmania and also found along the coast of Victoria and New South Wales. Sweetly fragrant flowers attract native insect pollinators through spring and summer.

Tasmanian Kunzea ambigua essential oil is prized for its therapeutic properties.
